About Simon J. Phillips
I’m Simon J. Phillips, a British author writing across speculative fiction, mythic fantasy, dark science fiction, historical storytelling, paranormal archive fiction, and modern mixed-genre worlds.
My work is built around worlds under pressure. Kingdoms fracture beneath old powers. Ancient systems wake after being forgotten. Space stations decay under the weight of secrets no one fully understands. Histories leave marks on the present, and people are often forced to change before they understand what that change will cost.
This site is the central home for my fiction, Chronicles, author updates, and long-term reading archive. It brings together my continuing story series, connected Chronicle projects, book pages, and reflective writing in one place, so readers can follow the stories as they grow.
I live and write in Japan, where much of my writing life has been shaped around work, routine, observation, and the slow discipline of building something lasting.
What I Write

I write immersive fiction with a focus on atmosphere, consequence, and worlds that feel older or larger than the characters moving through them.
Some of my work leans into mythic fantasy, where gods, magic, inheritance, and ruined kingdoms shape the lives of those caught beneath them. Some moves through science fiction, with failing systems, distant futures, alien pressure, orbital stations, and the psychological weight of survival. Other stories draw from historical atmosphere, modern unease, crime, horror, or the strange places where genres begin to overlap.
Across all of it, I return to similar questions.
What happens when a world stops behaving as people expect?
What remains when old powers return?
How does someone survive when the systems around them begin to fail?
My stories are not built around clean victories or simple answers. They are built around pressure, memory, change, and the cost of crossing into something unknown.
Story Worlds and Series Hubs

The story worlds are the centre of this site.
Each series has its own permanent page, where readers can find the current books, reading order, cover images, purchase links, background notes, and related posts. Some series are mythic and fantasy-led. Others move into science fiction, horror, historical fiction, or modern speculative territory.
The aim is to build a long-form fiction archive over time, one book and one series at a time.
You can explore the main fiction catalogue through the Story Worlds page, or move directly into individual series pages as they become available. These pages are designed to remain useful as each series grows, gathering the books, updates, related Chronicles, and author notes connected to that world.
My published books are also available through my Amazon KDP author page.
The Chronicles

The Chronicles are connected reading branches within the wider author platform.
They are not separate brands or disconnected projects. Each Chronicle gives readers a different way into the worlds, themes, and atmospheres that shape my fiction.
The Forgotten Chronicle explores historical atmosphere, overlooked moments, and the human weight of the past.
The Future Chronicle moves through science fiction, orbital decay, frontier systems, lost records, and futures shaped by pressure.
The Mythic Chronicle follows mythic and fantasy fragments, lost foundations, buried powers, and stories that survive as incomplete records.
The Modern Chronicle is for contemporary, modern, or mixed-genre pieces where present-day pressure, crime, horror, or social unease shape the story world.
The Unquiet Rooms Chronicle moves through fictional paranormal case files, haunted rooms, corrupted recordings, witness accounts, and archive notes, following investigations where the act of recording may make the room more dangerous.
This Author Platform

This website is my main author platform and independent reading archive.
It is where the different parts of my work come together: story series, Chronicle branches, book pages, paid story content, author updates, and longer reflections on writing and publishing.
Substack remains a parallel channel for readers who prefer that format. This WordPress site is the central home of the archive. Over time, it will grow into a structured place where readers can discover new series, follow current releases, read selected free openings, access paid content, and move between the stories while keeping the wider shape of the work in view.
The site is designed around permanent pages and ongoing posts. Pages act as hubs. Posts carry new material into those hubs. This means each Chronicle, story series, and author-side section can grow while the site remains clear, connected, and easy to follow.
Author Journal

The Author Journal is the more personal side of the site.
Here I write about the process of building a long-term author platform, developing story series, publishing through KDP, working with WordPress and Substack, and learning how to keep creative work moving alongside ordinary life.
It also includes book reviews, publishing reflections, and occasional posts about life in Japan when something feels genuinely worth sharing.
The Journal sits beside the fiction. It gives readers a clearer sense of the person behind the stories, the decisions behind the platform, and the slow work involved in building a writing life over time.
Where to Start
If you are new to my work, the best place to begin is with the Story Worlds page. That will give you the clearest route into the current fiction series, published books, and reading order.
If you prefer shorter atmospheric pieces, start with one of the Chronicle branches:
- The Forgotten Chronicle for historical atmosphere
- The Future Chronicle for science fiction
- The Mythic Chronicle for fantasy and mythic fragments
- The Modern Chronicle for contemporary and mixed-genre stories
- The Unquiet Rooms Chronicle for fictional paranormal case files
For personal updates, writing reflections, book reviews, and occasional notes from daily life, visit the Author Journal.
Readers who want access to the wider archive, paid posts, and ongoing story material can also visit the Membership or Subscribe page.
Closing Note
This site is where my stories gather.
Some begin as story worlds. Some arrive as Chronicles, fragments, records, reflections, or quiet notes from the edge of something larger. Together, they form the archive I am building piece by piece.
You are welcome to start wherever the door opens first.
